Daily driving, UV, dust and improper washing leave visible marks on paint over the years. Polishing is the process of mechanically removing a very thin layer of clear coat — along with the defects sitting inside it.
The result is deeper colour, a mirror-like surface and a better base for protection. On dark cars the before-and-after difference is at its most dramatic, because a dark background is exactly where swirl marks show up most.
One important point: the clear coat is not infinite. That is why we measure its thickness with a gauge before every polish and choose the least aggressive method that still delivers the result.

Polishing effectively removes scratches that sit within the clear coat. Deep scratches that reach primer or metal cannot be fully removed — they can be made less visible, but not eliminated. A simple test: if you can feel the scratch with a fingernail, it is probably too deep.
A full polish usually takes 6–12 hours depending on the size of the car and the state of the paint. Two-stage deep correction takes 10–16 hours. Plan to leave the car for the whole day.
Yes, always. After polishing, the paint is clean and at its most receptive to a protective layer. Wax protects for 1–3 months, a ceramic coating for 2–5 years. Without protection, freshly polished paint contaminates faster than usual.
Unskilled polishing with the wrong products or too much pressure can burn through the clear coat, particularly on edges and body lines. That is precisely why we measure thickness and start with the least aggressive combination that achieves the result.
