The brushes and cloth strips in an automatic wash pass over dozens of cars in a single day. Sand, road salt and grit travel through the system with them. Those particles stay in the brushes and act like sandpaper on the next car through.
You see the result in sunlight or under an LED lamp: a web of fine circular scratches the detailing trade calls swirl marks. They do not fade on their own, and the only way to remove them is polishing — which also removes a thin layer of clear coat. Every car can take that a limited number of times.
Washing by hand breaks that cycle. It takes longer, but the paint stays as it is.

A practical note: swirl marks show up most on dark cars — black, dark blue, dark grey — because light reflecting off the scratch edges contrasts against a dark background. If your car is dark, a hand wash is not a luxury; it is the only way to keep the paint clean long term.

Yes, that is included in the deep wash from €80. Road tar and microscopic metal particles from brake discs embed themselves in the clear coat and shampoo will not shift them. We use dedicated solvents and a clay bar treatment — afterwards the paint feels as smooth as glass.
