Čiekurkalns borders Teika, and we are on the Teika side, at Brīvības gatve 246. From the Čiekurkalns lines it is a short hop across Brīvības gatve — including in the months when washing in the yard simply is not possible.
Čiekurkalns differs from its neighbours in having a lot of private houses with their own yards. In summer a hose and a bucket genuinely do the job. The trouble starts in October: cold water will not lift the dirt, salt stays in the arches, and below freezing washing in the yard stops altogether.
